ARC contest, podcasts
City of Glass ARC contest: Thanks everyone for your fabulous entries! There was so much great stuff this time — twice as many entries as last year! — that it has been really hard to choose. I'm down to figuring out the last category and I'll post the winners when I do.

In the meantime: I'm doing an Urban Fantasy Podcast :

YA and Urban Fantasy -- Crossing generations and genres with NYT Bestselling authors Melissa Marr (Wicked Lovely) and Cassandra Clare (The Mortal Instruments series), along with Fangs Fur and Fey YA authors Janni Lee Simner (Bones of Faerie), Jennifer Lynn Barnes (Golden), Carrie Jones (Need), and Sarah Rees Brennan (The Demon's Lexicon). Discussion moderated by Eos Executive Editor, Diana Gill.

There's a call-in number to call in and ask questions: (347) 826-9684  Call this number to listen from your phone and ask questions live during the 'cast. Or if you have any questions about urban fantasy, writing, etc. that you want us to answer, feel free to ask them in the comments.

That sucks that I missed the deadline for the Arc Contest! Right after the production wound up, I went to Canada and Christmas happened!

I'll continue with my evil evil plans though :) I look forward to seeing who the winners will be!

When is the podcast? Would we be able to listen to it should anyone miss out on the live feed?
Cassie Clare[info]cassandraclare on December 29th, 2008 12:33 am (UTC)
Yes, it looks like they get archived:

Oh, yay! You're doing one of the blogtalk things! Those are always so fun!

Also...meep to the almost being done with the judging! That's some super speed judging right there...you must have used your judging rune. ;)
Ashley Michelle[info]xjustadoreher on December 28th, 2008 08:28 pm (UTC)
Maybe she had help from Madame Dorothea's crystal ball so she could see who was supposed to win before the entries came in.

Kind of like playing rock, paper, scissors against Alice.

Which poses a question.

Who would you rather have read your tea leaves do: Trelawny or Dorothea?

Maybe they could tell us which lightwood is gonna die! *grins and waves the death to max life for alec sign*
Ashley Michelle: TMI Clary/Jace[info]xjustadoreher on December 29th, 2008 12:39 am (UTC)
Oh goodness... For death predictions, I'd choose possessed!Trelawny, but normal!Trelawny sees death in EVERYONE'S future, so if we said "Is Alec going to die?" she'd probably give us twenty ways in which he would meet doom.

Dorothea, though, did get her predictions right... So... I pick Madame Dorothea.
roxasville[info]roxasville on December 29th, 2008 07:12 am (UTC)
im think its alec =(

*covers her ears and hums*

I'm in denial that Alec is even a possibility. I choose to obstinately hold to the belief that Max will die until proven wrong by reading the book. ^_^
LoveAroundFire: circus[info]lovearoundfire on December 29th, 2008 08:52 pm (UTC)
yeah but there's always that instance where Trelawny delivers a really real prediction, like the one about harry/neville/voldy that she gave to dumbledore when he was hiring her and the one she gave to harry about wormtail in PoA.
and Madame Dorothea is kinda currently out of commission...
i just wish one of them could predict for me what my friends got me for my birthday (i turned 18 yesterday)! they were all bragging about what awesome gifts they got me..

anyway, we could just debate the question that dear Cassie brought us - Magnus Bane vs Dumbledore...?
Ashley Michelle: Harry/Cedward[info]xjustadoreher on December 29th, 2008 08:55 pm (UTC)
Heh... That's why I said I'd choose possessed!Trelawny. She was in that weird possessed stage when she said the prophecy.

As for Magnus v. Dumbledore, I'd totally pick Magnus. He's definitely ten times cooler than Dumbledore and, as of yet, hasn't used everyone in order to fulfill some self-righteous deed.
★♪★MARCY★♪★: Mortal Instruments ~ Straight Men[info]marcyjo on December 29th, 2008 09:04 pm (UTC)
Magnus. Clearly Magnus. I prefer my awesome magic users with a heaping side of sarcasm. And glitter. ;)
LoveAroundFire: circus[info]lovearoundfire on December 29th, 2008 11:32 pm (UTC)
Well for Dumbledore's sake I'll say that he is pretty awesome for his robes and spectacles (and I like his cheery personality too), but sarcasm is something I hold very near and dear to my heart..

xjustadoreher (ashley, right?), I love your icon. Very fitting ;-D
Ashley Michelle: Potterpuffs - RL/SB[info]xjustadoreher on December 30th, 2008 12:57 am (UTC)
Hehehe... Yup, I'm Ashley.

And yes, sarcasm is definitely something to hold near and dear to the heart.

As is glitter.

And fabulousness in general.

Though, to be fair, Dumbledore was pretty cool.
Cassie Clare[info]cassandraclare on December 29th, 2008 12:04 am (UTC)
I'm actually done judging now. I just have to construct the monster blog entry that has the winners.

ETA
Exactly how long does it take to write a monster blog entry? Should I keep checking every hour or just wait till tomorrow? Or just leave you alone so you can keep working on it?

Oh, that sounds exciting! I'm a big fan of podcasts.
Question: This call-in number doesn't apply everywhere, does it?

I'll create a list of questions to ask and post them soon!

p.s - I can't wait to see what the winning entries are!

Man, that was some seriously fast judging.

Arg, City of Glass seems like such a long way away. I cannot wait until March!!!!!

Haha, I think Alice is slightly more reliable than Madame Dorethea's dodgy crystal balls. Nice referencing there.

The Monster Blog!!!!
I've been on this webpage all day!I do believe I'm going crazy with the wait. I love your books so much! The wait is killing me!!!!
In a fight Dumbledor would so outlast Magnus but I do love the Glitter in Magnus Dumbledor has the professor look (DUH!!!!) but Magnus has that very glittery look about him.
Now let me return to waiting in agony. =

AMAZING!!
i am very much speachless, for these books were writen absolutly great. I have read these books over and over, and Jace is a total hunk. His pure heart, courage, and love for everybody around him is amazing. He was writen wit h pure substance, and it would be wonderful to meet somebody like him in the future. Clara is so full of life, love, and passion that she makes me feel like she is somebody that most people would look up to. Simon is very caring, and an amazing friend. I actually have a best friend that is a mirror image of him, and i love him to death.

Having nothing bad to say about these books is breathtaking, because they were filled with such everyday things, tied in with things that are magical makes the books even more attractive. Miss.Clare you did an absolutly breath taking job. I thank you for these wonderful books!!

Love:
Taaylor, Bar River

I LOVE! the mortal instruments....
hi there, i'm katie, and i have just finished reading the mortal instruments, i absolutely LOVED them!!!! if they do get turned into a movie, i suggest songs that will DEFINATELY go with them , from Muse, listen to them, and tell me what you think, they're called: uprising, and undisclosed desires!!! they will match them very well, heres a preview of undisclosed desirees:
by the way, anything in "CAPS LOCK" means that it suits the books best.
"I WANT TO RECONCILE THE VIOLENCE IN YOUR HEART" -clary to jace
"i WANT TO RECOGNISE YOUR BEAUTY'S NOT JUST A MASK"
"I WANT TO EXERCISE THE DEMONS FROM YOUR PAST" Clary to Jace, but also Jace to Clary.
"I WANT TO SATISFY THE UNDISCLOSED DESIRES IN YOUR HEART."

and uprising:
"Paranoia is in bloom, the PR transmission will resume, they'll try to push drugs, keep us all dumbed down and hope that: WE WILL NEVER SEE THE TRUTH AROUND!."
"with all the green belts wrapped around our mind. and endless red tape TO KEEP THE TRUTH CONFINED."
"THEY WILL NOT FORCE US" -talking about the clave not controlling.
"THEY WILL STOP DEGRADING US"....
"THEY WILL NOT CONTROL US"....
"WE WILL BE VICTORIOUS"...
"INTERCHANGING MIND CONTROL, COME LET THE REVOLUTION TAKE ITS TOLL, IF YOU COULD FLICK THE SWITCH AND OPEN YOUR THIRD EYE, YOU'D SEE THAT, WE SHOULD NEVER BE AFRAID TO DIE."
"RISE UP AND TAKE THE POWER BACK, ITS TIME THAT, a fat cat had a heart attack, you know that, THEIR TIME IS COMING TO AN END"...THE CLaVE
"WE HAVE TO UNIFY AND WATCH OUR FLAG ASCEND".
"chorus"

thank you, i hope you liked them, please listen to them though! they are great, and every time i hear these, i think about city of bones, ashes, and glass!!!
i had dreams that i dyed my hair blazing red/orange and i played Clary, because i am short and i'm everything she is, exept i have brown hair, and i am thirteen!!! i was so hoping the movie would come out in a few years so i could at least "try" to portray Clary Fray.... by the way, i was a little worried about there being a movie, as, i don't think anyone will be able to pull of jace!!! but it looks pretty ok!

I love and ADORE the mortal instruments and i beleive you have a very AMAZING talent, thank you SOOOOO much for creating these books, i can't stop thinking about them, i cried at undesirable events while reading them, and i laughed at the most funniest parts!!! i haven't gone a SINGLE day, without thinking about them, i honestly do not know how my life would be without these books!! thank you in every language possible:
(Terima kasih, dankie, faleminderit, kiitos, merci, danke, grazie, paldies, ddiolch 'ch, Mulţumesc)

so thank you!!!!

p.s, PLEASE WILL YOU CARRY ON! I KNOW THAT YOU ARE CARRYING ON FROM SOME-ONE ELSES PERSPECTIVE, BUT PLEASE CARRY ON WITH THE LOVE OF jACE AND CLARY, AND I WANT TO SEE HOW IT TURNS OUT WITH ALEC AND MAGNUS, LUKE AND JOCELYN, AND WHO SIMON PICKS: ISABELLE OR MAIA!!! and if sebastian/jonathen, is still allive!!! there is so much i still want to know, it can't possibly end there,....please!!!!! i beg you, not just for me, but for everyone else who is a fan (and those who aren't fans, are seriously INSANE, and have something mentally wrong with them!!)

anyways i better leave you to all of your other fan mail, thank you, once again..

Re: I LOVE! the mortal instruments....
Katie,

I'm glad you're so enthusiastic about the books. I think you're confused, though, about the books that are coming next. There's a fourth TMi book, which is not "from someone else's perspective." There is also the Infernal Devices, which is a companion series, and is about different characters. I realize you sound like you are not interested in anything that isn't about Clary and Jace, but I hope you'll check it out, as the next TMI book will make more sense if you've started The Infernal Devices.
