Ireland, Spain, NYC Teen Festival
1) NYC Teen Author Festival

This year marks the first-ever NYC Teen Author Festival (March 16-22, 2009), taking place in and around downtown New York City and featuring a ton of YA authors. You can find the full schedule on Scott Westerfeld's blog here.

To kick off the festival on Monday, March 16, Justine L. and Scott have put together a Juvenalia Smackdown panel, moderated by the foxy Libba Bray. Justine, Scott, Holly Black, Alaya Johnson, David Levithan, Diana Peterfreund and I will be reading from our childhood and teenage writings. And let me tell you, my stuff was BAD. I had to have a friend from high school scan a bunch of pages of the terrible romance novel I wrote, and she was like, "This thing is so bad it melted the scanner." So if you're into that sort of cruel punishment, you should def. check our panel out.

2) I'm happy to report that the Spanish-language version of City of Bones just came out yesterday. The cover looks familiar! [although they've switched the covers of Bones and Ashes].

I also did an interview with the Spanish paper Publico, which you can read here if you can read Spanish. I cannot, so for all I know the article is very insulting, but I'm assuming not. Thanks to [info]kotori_chan for the link.

3) In a few weeks I leave for Ireland, for a certain Irish Castle Writing Retreat, as already blogged by Maureen Johnson and the redoubtable Sarah Rees Brennan. Basically, I will be spending a week in Somewhere, Ireland, with Robin Wasserman, Holly Black, Carrie Ryan, Ally Carter, Diana Peterfreund, Sarah Cross, and Jennifer Lynn Barnes. Maureen is working on a Super Sekrit Project and I will be wading through the second half of The Clockwork Princess, which is already consuming my life. I predict someone falls into a bog (the peat kind) and is preserved for posterity.

Also I will have tour dates to post soon. Like next week soon.

As far as number 1, I'm so excited! While I'm no longer a teenager (twenty-somethings can be angsty too!), I can't wait for the TAF! It's a good thing I'm local!

As far as number 3, I just read Sarah Rees Brennan's new book, 'The Demon's Lexicon' and was happily surprised by it. S&S sure can pick them! Good luck in Ireland, I'v some sisters in Dublin and you'll no doubt have an amazing time. It's gorgeous there.

Thanks for the update and can't wait to hear about tour dates!

I like the Spanish switch - it reflects levels of shirtlessness in the books!

I must ponder the question of whether to help if someone falls into a peat bog, or fetch a video camera.

Everything you mention here is awesome!

I have total castle envy as SRB knows. =;

Well, we may freeze to death. We'll see.

Hope you get to come close to Nashville. I really enjoyed meeting you at DragonCon year before last. I'm reading City of Glass right now. I'm one of the Star Wars fan librarians that you met from Tennessee. Anyway, Simon & Shuster sent a box of items and it was in it. It is totally AWESOME by the way, and OMG I can't put it down. I should be in bed right now!! I've read the nearly the whole thing today. Please don't worry. I won't leak ANYTHING, and you can have that in writing if you like.

Tour dates!! *clappyhands* I'm crossing my fingers for Vancouver! It's very lovely in the spring, you know, and the home of Fluevog and the Fluevog flagship store... just sayin'. ;)

The article is not insulting =) Or at least, not intentionally. It does say that you're Stephenie Meyer's heir, but I think they mean it in a good way. And they really focus on the vampires in your books ... probably to further the Twilight analogy. But they quote you a whole bunch, about reinventing classic fantasy traditions and how you mixed yours with anime, and how reading for the new generation is a cool activity for groups. So hopefully those quotes are accurate. I could re-translate them for you if you like, but they sounds pretty good to me. On the whole, I think they were trying to create excitement about your books by appealing to what they think their readers are interested in.

Also, the third commentator believes that you are fooling everyone, and you are actually an actress from "Little Britain." Or at least, the lady in the photo is. Noooo clue what that's about.
Cassie Clare[info]cassandraclare on February 19th, 2009 05:35 pm (UTC)
I know nothing about "Little Britain" thought I am not sure why anyone in it would pose with one of my books. :D Thanks for the translation!

"Somewhere, Ireland" sounds like fun! If its a castle castle then it's probably "down the country". Being from Dublin (the big shhmoke)anything outside of Dublin "the country". West of Ireland? Country. The midlands? Country. Its all fun though.

Have a great time :) Throw the word graaaand into everything and you'll shock the locals with your knowledge. Hopefully you'll be here for St. Patricks Day in March.

Congratulations. I just read City of Bones yesterday and loved it. Your Spanish readers are in for a treat.
rissa_w1029[info]rissa_w1029 on February 20th, 2009 01:40 am (UTC)
Yes, they are! And by the way, I'm pretty sure the Spanish article wasn't insulting at all, though some parts I couldn't quite catch :)

Cassie, I don't mean to be annoying or anything, but when do you think I might be getting the Clockwork Princess chapter I won in the ARC contest? I'm just really excited :) And Ireland souunds like fun--hope you don't freeze ;D

article...
I highly suggest you run this article through babelfish or some other online translator... it's highly entertaining that way! I especially enjoyed the part where I was informed you are the "heiress of this phenomenon of faces beardless and enlarged trilogies". Also, reading is no longer "not like something solitary or of timid boys." Gotta love those online translators.

City of Ashes Question
I am reading the part at Valentine's ship and Clary draws the crazy open rune and valentine says that it says "Mene mene tekel upharsin"
What does that mean?
Thanks!!

You'll find out in Glass.

(Or you can always google it.)

hey,
i just read the aritcle and dont worry there is not one little drop of insult in this article. This part though was the highlight for me in which there is nothing but truth...
"Queridos Edward y Jacob [los protagonistas de Crepúsculo]: os adoro a los dos, pero voy a pasar el fin de semana con Jace".

in other words.......dear edward and jacob i love you guys but im going to enjoy my weekend with Jace. XD
lol made me smile!
Cassie Clare[info]cassandraclare on February 26th, 2009 02:45 pm (UTC)
I love that too — Stephenie is so funny.
Sarah[info]trainwind on March 5th, 2009 04:59 pm (UTC)
Reporting that yesterday I spotted your book in the Carrefour in Granada, Spain. Congratulations!

Ireland
You're coming to Ireland! *happy face* Hurrah! You'll love it.
*sad face* Unfortunately I don't think you are coming to the North, if you are going to a castle retreat. I live in the North and have always longed for the day I saw a signing tour saying Belfast or such like for the North.

I'm a huge fan, and would rather eat my right arm than wait any more months for your book! So will be importing it from America, god love Amazon. And have a great time in Ireland, hopefully you will love it as much as we do.
Cassie Clare[info]cassandraclare on March 6th, 2009 05:15 pm (UTC)
Re: Ireland
I am not coming to the North, but then this is not a trip that involves any public appearances at all. I will be back in Ireland in July, I hope, doing some appearances, so stay tuned.
