Let's see, news . . .

1) My editor pinged me the other day to let me know that The Mortal Instruments series has now been on the New York Times bestseller list for six months straight without a break. That's fairly awesome, and all thanks to you, readers, for making it happen.

2) The draft manuscript for The Clockwork Angel has been turned in. Now to turn right around and finish City of Fallen Angels. Glerk.

3) In Movember, I'm making a short signing tour of Eastern Canada* . . . WITH HOLLY BLACK AND SCOTT WESTERFELD! Who are, as we all know, awesome. I'll be signing all my books, and reading from The Clockwork Angel) . . . and possibly (fingers crossed) reading a little preliminary stuff from City of Fallen Angels too.

The schedule is:

Wednesday November 4th: MONTREAL
7pm
Chapters Pointe-Claire
6321 Trans-Canada Highway, unit 1410
(514) 428-5500

Thursday November 5th: OTTAWA
7pm
Chapters Rideau
47 Rideau Street,
Ottawa, Ontario
(613) 241-0073

Friday November 6th: TORONTO
7PM
Trinity St. Paul's United Church
427 Bloor Street West

** tickets will be available online and at the door, books will be sold at the event.

To buy tickets online, click here

or paste this URL into your browser:

http://www.ticketweb.ca/t3/sale/SaleEventDetail?dispatch=loadSelectionData&eventId=2931204

*No western Canada this time. There just wasn't time as the three of us had only four days during which we were all free and could do this tour.

** I know, I know, tickets. I'm sorry about that. It's a pain to have to get them. The ticketing for the event is because they rented a church to hold the event in instead of holding it in a bookstore so the ticket cost goes toward the church's expenses in holding the event.

Haha, why is it that I like the word Movember more than November? *points to news item 3*

Too bad you're not going to Vancouver - I would have tried to plan a trip up to see you and my friend at UBC, even though I'm broke and swamped at work.

Western Tour
No Western Tour!!! But that's where all the greatest book readers ever lived!!! This is a tragedy. That's where they are filming all the Twilight movies. Probably where they're going to film yours too! They don't call it Beautiful British Columbia for nothing.

Re: Western Tour
I'm aware that it's very pretty, since I toured there in April. :)

... tickets are SOLD? You charge for your book tour?
Cassie Clare[info]cassandraclare on October 1st, 2009 08:07 pm (UTC)
Shezan,

I don't charge for anything. Publishers organize book tours, not authors, nor do we collect any money if tickets are sold. Since the event (and it is only one event — note that the other two events, which are being held in bookstores, are free) isn't being held in a bookstore, but a church, my guess would be that the ticket cost goes toward the church's expenses in terms of staying open and providing staff to run the event. This is really a very common thing when offsite events for book tours occur, and I actually don't get any say about it one way or the other.

(I really hope this makes sense to you. I'd hate to think anyone was upset about it. I emailed my publisher as well to inquire as to why the ticketing for the event and to confirm what the money goes toward. Though someone did remind me that many if not most bookstores require that you purchase a book at the event if you want anything signed or to talk to the author, so actually many bookstore events are not themselves "free.")

Cassie

tickets, how much?
So how much are the tickets? are they the same price if you but it online? and you CAN buy at the door right? like it wont be a limted number of people is there? =/
Cassie Clare[info]cassandraclare on October 1st, 2009 08:02 pm (UTC)
Re: tickets, how much?
According to the website, it's five dollars for a ticket. I assume it's the same price at the door? I'm sorry, they really haven't given us a lot of info about this. If there's a limited number of tickets I haven't heard about it.

Please do get back to us in regards to who's pocketing the ticketing money. I have no problem paying $5 for a ticket as long as it's towards a worthy cause.

I haven't been to your events before, but will there be any signings or is it just readings and Q&A?

Thanks!
Cassie Clare[info]cassandraclare on October 1st, 2009 10:43 pm (UTC)
Here's what my publisher said: "We have to charge for the Toronto event as it is an offsite event and the cost of the tickets cover the venue fee and the technical costs."

In other words, the church gets the money. If you have a problem with that I certainly understand but unfortunately there isn't anything I can do about it.

I always sign books, and I'll sign whatever you bring.

i wish i lived in canada.
Or anywhere that authors visit, for that matter. I live in Missouri, and most authors don't tour there. It's sad, really.

Anyways, congrats on the NYT list! It totally deserves to be there. I love your books so much :)

I'm seriously excited for The Clockwork Angel, and even more so with City of Fallen Angels. I can't wait until they come out and have fun on your trip!

Maggie :)

>:O graaaah!
Alright. I've already complained on Holly's blog, but you must know: YOU'RE CRAZY! Why o why couldnt you just tour BC??? I can't believe that reeeaaally soon, two of my favourite authors, who've inspired me to keep (trying)writing, will be IN CANADA, and I WONT BE THERE!!! this sucks...but while I'm at this (sounding like a crazed fangirl...) I might as well say I love your work, and if your books are made into movies, my life shall be complete.

p.s. you spelled "Movemeber" by accident in there. :P

After the signing tour, will you post what is read out of the prelimirary stuff from City of Fallen Angels?
Cassie Clare[info]cassandraclare on October 10th, 2009 12:11 am (UTC)
No, because it would be so rough. There's a tradition of reading from rough work at readings and real life events, but the internet is pretty permanent.
