City of Fallen Angels chapter titles
So below is a list of the titles of the chapters in City of Fallen Angels. This is in the mold of the post I made about the chapter titles of City of Glass, back in September of '08:

with little notes about the meanings of the titles, why I picked them, and sometimes, what they have to do with the story. This is instead of a Clockwork Angel excerpt for this month (you can also find the last two Clockwork Angel excerpts here and here.) This was originally posted over at Mundie Moms as a present for their first anniversary. HB, MMs!

Chapter One: A Proposition
In which Simon, who has been trying hard to live as normal a life as he can, finds out that's not going to be possible any more.

Chapter Two: Fear of Falling
This is the chapter that will be included in the paperback copy of City of Glass, so I won't say much about it, except it's Clary's POV.

Chapter Three: Sevenfold
And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him. Well, that whole Mark of Cain business wasn't just going to go away.

Chapter Four: The Art of Eight Limbs
This one contains a training sequence that involves Muay Thai, a martial art that's called "The Art of Eight Limbs" because it involves using hands, elbows, knees and feet as strike points. This is also the chapter that contains the quote from the Seelie Queen I Tweeted — the one about "he's bound to you, but does he love you?"

Chapter Five: Hell Calls Hell
This is Latin, from one of the Psalms, abyssus abyssum invocat. Also translated as "deep calls unto deep." In which Clary tries on a bridesmaid's dress.

Chapter Six: Wake The Dead
Pretty literal, actually.

Chapter Seven: Praetor Lupus
Those inclined toward Latin can have a whack at this one. This chapter has werewolves in it. :)

Chapter Eight: Walk in Darkness
"But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes." And in the meantime, Simon's band gets a gig.

Chapter Nine: From Fire Unto Fire
This is from Oscar Wilde: "Nay, let us walk from fire unto fire,
From passionate pain to deadlier delight,—
I am too young to live without desire."
I am sure everyone will be happy to know this chapter is mostly Clary and Jace.

Chapter Ten: 232 Riverside Drive
Quite literally the address of something important (I can't help but wonder if someone actually lives at this address — I have friends who live on Riverside Drive, though not this number...)

Chapter Eleven: Our Kind
In this case, "Our Kind" is vampires.

Chapter Twelve: Sanctuary
In which a character we know from Clockwork Angel makes a strange demand of the Nephilim.

Chapter Thirteen: Girl Found Dead
What it says on the tin!

Chapter Fourteen: What Dreams May Come*
“Max,” Jace said. “Max, I’m so sorry.”

Chapter Fifteen: Beati Bellicosi
The actual phrase in Latin is Beati Pacifici — blessed are the peacemakers. In this case, I altered it (hopefully accurately) to Blessed are the Warriors.

Chapter Sixteen: New York City Angels
Those who know the Thriving Ivory song Angels on the Moon will recognize this phrase.

Chapter Seventeen: Cain Rose Up
And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. All of this stuff is from Genesis 4, the Cain and Abel story — it's thematically called up throughout the book since it's a story about family, murder, sin, forgiveness and blood.

Chapter Eighteen: Scars of Fire
This is actually from a Carl Sandburg poem:
"Wandering oversea singer,
Singing of ashes and blood,
Child of the scars of fire,
Make us one new dream, us who forget.
Out of the storm let us have one star."

Epilogue — As of now, the epilogue is just titled "epilogue." It's pretty short but, I think, packs a punch. I hope so!

*Everyone knows this one! But in that sleep of death, what dreams may come. Hamlet.

Yes! That's exactly what I think, Simon deserves someone. He's sacrificed a lot for Clary, even lost his mortality! He's bound to find that special someone I'm sure =). My favourite character? Hmm, that's kind of hard. If I had to pick I'd say Jace... *hides behind chair* I like his personality... I like Simon and Alec though. And Magnus is hilarious! Oh! Oh! Max! ♥

Yeah, I tried to get my friend into TMI and she didn't like it... she didn't even finish reading CoB! I was so sad. I love this series too much XD

He's definitely lost a lot for her. The chapters where he gets turned into a vampire are so sad because it really is his death. ;A; I can't wait to see more of how he's adjusting in CoFA. *so excited* Haha, why are you hiding? X) I find it funny how popular Jace is. I can understand a bit of why people like him, he just doesn't appeal to me. Even though I'm not too fond of him, I do enjoy his sarcasm. XDD He can be pretty funny. Alec is really cool too! I love him, he's just really sweet. ♥ Max is cute too, I wish he'd had the chance to be in it more. :( And nobody's more awesome than Magnus of course~ <3 My favorite character (if you hadn't guessed already, lol), is Simon. ♥♥♥ It's pathetic to be so in love with a fictional character, but I can't help it with him. XD I always reread all the scenes with him over so many times. I love everything about him, he's so adorable~

Aww, that's too bad! It's way better than a lot of books I've read. The only series I like better is Harry Potter. And considering how much I love Harry Potter, it's amazing to even come close.

Yes I definitely want to see how he's adjusting, I can see him struggling in the beginning, probably talking about how different it is. I do find his sarcasm funny, that's actually a lot of why I like him. I don't know, his personality just appeals to me =P. Yeah, I really wish Max had stuck around longer, it made me sad when he was died =(. Oh I know it's pathetic to love a fictional character but I can't help it either! I cannot resist ;D. I love rereading my favourite parts, there are too many of them for me to remember! XD I like Simon too =D

Harry Potter! Loove HP, though her books excited me less than TMI did while I was reading them. I looove Harry Potter!

U-Umm, I like Jace alright when he's not being a jerk! Haha, I don't want to accidenly offend you. XD There are times I think he's cool, it's just that he annoys me the majority, haha. No really, I'm not that harsh with characters. There's no one I absolutely can't stand in the series. I even felt bad for Valentine at the end. Yeah. I'm weird. XDD I think it's really interesting to see all the differences he's having to face after becoming a vampire. It's somehow easy to forget he's not human anymore, s it's nice having those little reminders. I really want to see his family's reaction in CoFA. It's rare that I love a fictional character this much, so it kind of took me off guard. X) The first week after reading the books, I couldn't stop thinking about them even when I was at work in myold job. It was rather distracting. XD And then I'd see a guy with dark hair and glasses and get all excited. Lol, that description sounded like Harry Potter. That's good you like Simon! :D Some people seem to really hate him for some reason. :(

Yeah, I actually felt more excited reading TMI at times to be absolutely honest. Which kinda feels like betrayal to HP to say so, but~ Maybe it's because I'm so used to the style of writing in HP, TMI felt more refreshing? I don't know, it's weird. I can never abandon Harry Potter as my fave book series no matter how much I love TMI though. X)

I, personally, am all for Simon & Isabelle. I like her.
My friend highly disagrees.
