movie news — casting Clary
Just dropping an entry to announce that, as reported by Deadline, Lily Collins, who starred in The Blind Side and the upcoming Priest**, has been cast to play Clary in the movie adaptation of City of Bones. The producers and director have worked with her before and say great things, and I have to admit right now I haven't seen The Blind Side but am obviously going to go out and watch it NOW.

She is completely adorable and looks right for Clary to me:

[and with curly hair!]

And now, of course, as this article notes, presumably the speculation about who plays Jace will begin in earnest . . .

** And apparently is also famous for dating Taylor Lautner — did I know this? No, but my readers apparently know everything. :)

ETA: There are now 590 comments on the post and I think 589 mention Alex Pettyfer. We get it. Really, we do! It would be hard to miss. Just a reminder that I don't have any influence over casting!

Amazing!
Love her! She was never one I thought of before, but now that I think of her she's really perfect. Very talented, I think she will definitely do Clary justice. I'm extremely excited to see it all come together!

But we all know that Jace is the important one, really. (Still holding out for RDJ... ;D Seriously, just kidding.)

Cassie, has there been any merchandising talk yet, who will be licensed to produce/distribute, etc.? Just hoping it's not NECA. But they could do worse.

Re: Amazing!
Never seen her before, but she does have that "Clary-flare" to her. I can definitely see her playing the part of Clary. :) Now Jace will be tricky....

Re: Amazing!
She fits Clary's physical description beautifully and she doesn't look like a 30 yr. old trying to play a 16yr old- I really hope she can act.

Great!
She is the perfect Clary. I am so pleased that the directors of LOTR are directing the movie. I just knew they'd pick a good Clary! I must admit, she looks a lot like how I pictured Clary!

If they get Clary right, I'm sure they'll get the rest of the characters right as well!

I will be looking forward to the movie!

Re: Great!
Lily does remember the Clary of the books, at least physically.. Good choice.

Re: Great!
NO NO - Mitch Hewer could be Jem, but he just not rugged enough to be Jace.

Alex Pettyfer ALL the way :) theres literally no one else that can pull off being a 17 year old, but with that manliness and downright beauty.

Garrett Hedlund perhaps - but too old x

Re: Great!
Mitch Hewer can't be Jem. Jem is Chinese.

Lily Collins
I have never written on one of these, so bare with me - but I've just found your books via Clockwork Angel - I love them - and the young lady who has been cast to play Clary - is Phil Collins' daughter - a rather famous drummer back in my day - and is still working (just released a new CD)... Anyway, I knew she was modeling, but I didn't realize she had gone into acting too-She will be fabulous as Clary. Her father was a pretty cool actor himself! Okay, I'll stop - but just so you know, I'm desperate for the second book in the Internal Devices series - I'm from the Steam Punk world myself and loved every second of the first. Reading City of Bones right now, so I promise I'll catch up! Kat
