UK/Ireland release of City of Glass. Tour dates. Deleted scenes.
So City of Glass is now out in the UK and Ireland!

A few things:

1) Yes, I am aware that the British cover of City of Glass is not in the same style as the previous UK editions of Bones and Ashes.

They, too, have been redesigned, and now match the American covers. I have gotten some sad emails from people whose sets of books now will not match. I sympathize, but this is one of those things about the book industry. You are always at risk of a redesign. Especially when a particular cover associated with a book has been either particularly successful or has become iconically associated with that book in some way — the American covers are the ones overwhelmingly used to market my books in every country in the world with the exceptions of Poland and Germany. This sort of thing is not an uncommon occurrance — think, for instance, of the folks who bought Twilight on its original release in the UK, when it looked like this:

It's since been redesigned to match the American cover, with its iconic apple. So just to say, while the cover change wasn't my decision, I get why they did it and I'm basically for it, with apologies to those who are now going to have slightly off-kilter sets. On the plus side, perhaps the old covers will become collector's items. And no, there is absolutely no way to buy copies of City of Glass that match the old City of Bones and City of Ashes. They never printed any. I don't have one, the publisher doesn't have one, no bookstore ever sold one — they simply do not exist.

I remember that old cover of Twilight. It was out here in Australia like that first as well. Then they changed it.
I like the American City of Glass anyways. Pretty.

Re: Hope to see your soon.
Oh, I heard they were giving away t-shirts! Yes, do come to an event and bring the shirt, I want to see it. :) Ireland or England, I don't much mind which!

Ooh, that's my scan of the original Twilight cover. Cool! (though I'm not a big fan of it). So glad you're coming to the UK - you'll be meeting my friend in Glasgow! (she's the children's specialist at Borders). Have fun, and hope to catch you next time!

It's too bad the COG cover won't match the previous UK editions - they were so pretty... but I'm still looking forward to the release - doesn't matter what the book looks like, I'm sure it's awesome =)
And I hope you'll have a great time in UK!

P.S. haven't seen that Twilight cover before. and thank God they changed it, 'cause it looks really ugly.

This reminded me! You will be signing at our store! Novemeber 10! and i will take care of all your needs ;) Any prefered beverages or food?

As for the cover - what matters is the story.
Cassie Clarecassandraclare on June 30th, 2009 03:06 pm (UTC)
OOh, cool. Do you have the details – what time the signing is at and the location of the store? I'd love to publicize it.

Um, food. Mostly I eat chocolate.

Aaaaah, I am not going to be in London on both dates - nuuuuuuuuuuu! D: I really enjoyed your Ashes signing and hoped to see you again for the Glass one.

I was quite surprised with the American cover being on my book, especially as I initially always wanted the American ones and just had come to terms with the UK ones. Ah well..

I thought City of Glass was out next week! This is good news. I just nipped up to WH Smiths and have now purchased it. Must re-read the other two first 'though.

Ahh, I know what I will be doing this weekend. :DD

omg this is so unfair. I'm visiting London, but I leave for Paris on the 9th at 1 PM. so close!
(Anonymous) on June 30th, 2009 07:09 pm (UTC)
In all honesty I was annoyed when the covers changed but since reading it, I dont care. As someone else said, its all about the story which is fantastically wonderful :P Congrats on all your hardwork!
See you in Ireland for the signing, I'll be the one covering the back of the t-shirt easons gave me.
"Dear Jacob, I'm spending the week with Jace, sorry love Stephenie" Sounds TOO weird for a guy to be wearing :P But otherwise love the front :D

I bought City of Glass yesterday in the UK and I'm SO excited to finish it! And I'm excited that you're doing book signings in London. I went to SRB's at the Murder One Club so at least I know where it is and I'm a-gonna strive to come to yours too. WOOHOO!
