movie news — casting Clary
Just dropping an entry to announce that, as reported by Deadline, Lily Collins, who starred in The Blind Side and the upcoming Priest**, has been cast to play Clary in the movie adaptation of City of Bones. The producers and director have worked with her before and say great things, and I have to admit right now I haven't seen The Blind Side but am obviously going to go out and watch it NOW.

She is completely adorable and looks right for Clary to me:

[and with curly hair!]

And now, of course, as this article notes, presumably the speculation about who plays Jace will begin in earnest . . .

** And apparently is also famous for dating Taylor Lautner — did I know this? No, but my readers apparently know everything. :)

ETA: There are now 590 comments on the post and I think 589 mention Alex Pettyfer. We get it. Really, we do! It would be hard to miss. Just a reminder that I don't have any influence over casting!

On Casting Jace
I'm probably the only person who feels this way, but I feel like Alex Pettyfer would be a terrible idea for Jace. He's going to be in "I Am Number Four" and the following movies, and that is another big teen series. Since that movie comes out long before TMI, he'll be known as John (or Number Four) and everyone will think of him that way if they see him as Jace. I just don't want this series to go the way of Twilight, where everyone gushes over the male characters, when the GIRL is actually the lead role. This series deserves so much more than that. It's better than that.

Re: On Casting Jace
That'll only be relevant if I Am Number Four is a huge success and they actually make more films. Most franchises don't make it, and I Am Number Four, I have to say, looks really bad. I don't think it'll be an issue.

The book is barely a book. It's a product.

I agree. Jace doesnt look at all like Alex Pettyfer, if someone seems to think he is "perfect" for that role, they can make their own movie. I have no idea who he should be, but he needs to be JACE, not some wannabe. only jace can pull off jace, so casting director, Please FIND HIM!!

Re: On Casting Jace
I actually really agree with you.

Whenever there is a male lead/secondary character in a book with blonde hair, everyone automatically wants Alex Pettyfer. Take Beastly, I Am Number 4, Alex Rider... Plus, Hunger Games fans also want him to star in their movie. I think we need someone totally and completely new to play Jace. Or someone who is under the radar, but an amazingly wonderfully perfect actor.

I agree that this series deserves much more than people swooning over male characters. That is what I loved about these books versus Twilight. That it wasn't only focused on the romance. All the other characters are fully developed and Jace and Clary have lives and things to worry about outside of just their relationship.

I want Jace to be nice to look at, but I don't want him to only be the center of attention in this movie.
